The SLAS History Fair 2024 was held on March 26-27. Students from grade 6-11 participated in the said event, and works related to their projects started as early as late January.

To begin with, students had to choose a topic to work on – Ancient Civilizations, Pre-Columbian to Post-Cold War America, and Modern World History. Grade 9 students taking up World Geography classes also joined. They worked on topics related to world culture, and contemporary global or regional issues such as climate change. Each team had to formulate a main research question then dug deeper on the S.P.I.C.E (Social, Political, Interactive, Cultural, and Economics) aspects by doing intelligent research. Moreover, they had to complete the written component by writing biographies, diaries, news articles, interviews, and other approved types which had to look as authentic as possible. Lastly, a 3D object and a display board had to be done. Top 3 projects in MS and HS were chosen based on research quality, project creativity, displays, and writing convention.

With the guidance of the Social Studies teachers – Mr. Stewart, Mr. Thompson, Mr. Sellick, Mr. Kehoe, Ms. Hutchings, and I, students came up with amazing projects which were displayed in the auditorium for 2 days. We are so proud of our students.
“History Fair is a very helpful activity that enhances various skills of students-research, writing, creative, and organization to name a few. Additionally, they develop compassion and open-mindedness as they share ideas and work with each member of the team. Furthermore, presenting their projects in front of the class is a way to build-up their confidence. ”
