News

“Guidance Corner”
November was a very busy month for the Guidance Department and the highlight of this month was “Anti-Bullying Week!”

Anti-Bullying Week 2024: Anti-Bullying Assembly
This year the Guidance Department kicked off Anti-Bullying Week with an assembly for Secondary students in Middle and High School. Hosted by Secondary Guidance Counselor, Ms. Abby, students learned about different types of bullying such as physical, social, verbal and cyberbullying. Students were also encouraged to “Choose Respect,” and use the SLAS Core Values: Compassionate Citizen of the World, Proficient Communicator, Creative Thinker, and Confident Individual throughout Anti-Bullying Week.

“Chalk Out” Bullying
Throughout the week, Secondary students came together to beautify the SLAS walkway with Anti-Bullying rhetoric and slogans. At the centerpiece, students created an Eagle with the message of “Slashing Out Bullying.” Thank you to all the Secondary students for their creativity and collaboration to promote Anti-Bullying Week!

Hand Print Mural (Collaboration with the Art Department)
The Art Department and Guidance Department teamed up together to help create a Hand Print Mural with the help of the Secondary students. Throughout the week, students came to Mr. Lucky’s art studio to have their hands painted and place on the mural. The handprints represent the uniqueness and individuality that each of us carry within our personal identity. Thank you to all the students who participated in creating this beautiful piece of art and thank you to the Art Department for helping to promote Anti-Bullying Week. The final result is beautiful!
