Primary ELD Program
Prior to entering the school, students are given a placement test. Based on the results, students either enter on level, advanced, or English Language Development (ELD) courses. ELD courses are meant for students who are still acquiring the English language.
Students are formally assessed three times each year in first, second, and third trimester assessed on their reading comprehension, accuracy, and fluency. These tests are administered individually and each child is tested at their particular reading level. Students also take the MAP tests in Reading, and Language Usage each trimester.
Following these testing windows, ELD teachers, homeroom teachers, and administration meet to discuss potential student eligibility and exiting requirements. These requirements take into account student DRA and MAP scores, along with current class grades.
