Planning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Guidance Counselors and students meet multiple times during students&#8217; junior and senior years to develop post-secondary plans and review the application process.\u00a0 Listed below is an overview of college-related benchmarks during junior and senior year.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"rt-toggle  no-numbers\"><ol>\n<li>\n<div class=\"toggle-head\">\n<div class=\"toggle-title\">Junior Year<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"toggle-content\">\n<h5>September<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Focus on Academics:\u00a0<\/strong> During the course of this year, students should focus on taking the most challenging classes possible and achieving best possible grades in those classes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get Involved:<\/strong> Join a club, try out for a sports team, volunteer, get a job, take on a new hobby, etc&#8230;\u00a0 Colleges want to admit students who keep exploring new interests, cultivate existing interests, and gain new experiences.<\/p>\n<div class=\"line\"><span class=\"top\">[top]<\/span><\/div>\n<h5>October<\/h5>\n<p><strong>PSAT Exam:<\/strong> It is recommended that all college-bound students take the PSAT exam.\u00a0 The exam can provide an overview of the SAT exam in a less stressful environment.\u00a0The PSAT is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (<a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalmerit.org\/entering.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NMSQT<\/a>).\u00a0The National Merit Corporation recognizes the top scoring students in the nation with college scholarships.\u00a0Students will be notified of the test date and registration process in homeroom.\u00a0 Registration is done through the Guidance Office, room 311.<\/p>\n<div class=\"line\"><span class=\"top\">[top]<\/span><\/div>\n<h5>February<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Junior Parent Night:<\/strong>\u00a0Introduction to post-secondary planning for parents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Guidance Seminars:<\/strong> Students will meet with their counselors in a group setting to learn about the college application process.\u00a0The seminars include information regarding Naviance, post-secondary few months.\u00a0A college visit may be set up by calling the college admissions office directly and setting up an official visit and tour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ACT Exam:\u00a0<\/strong>For more Recommendations:<\/strong>\u00a0Students should start asking teachers for college recommendations.\u00a0Typically, colleges ask for two teacher recommendations, one from a Humanities class, and one from a Math\/Science class.\u00a0Teachers will expect specific information from students in September (i.e. college list, envelopes).<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAT Exam:<\/strong>\u00a0For more information, class=\"top\">[top]<\/span><\/div>\n<h5>Summer<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Make Plans for the Summer:<\/strong> While Summer is a time to relax from school, it&#8217;s also a great time to stay busy with activities such as jobs, summer camp, internships, volunteering, etc&#8230;\u00a0 Colleges prefer that students keep exploring new interests, cultivate existing interests, and gain new experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>College Visits:<\/strong>\u00a0Students should take the time to go visit colleges they have been researching for the last few months.\u00a0 A college visit may be set up by calling the college admissions office directly and setting up an official visit and tour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>College Essay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Students should start working on the first draft of their college essay.\u00a0 The essay questions tend to be similar from year to year.\u00a0 However, most college applications for the following school year will become available in late August\/early September.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"toggle-head\">\n<div class=\"toggle-title\">Senior Year<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"toggle-content\">\n<h5>September<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Focus on
