Victoria Atha is from Canada. She attended Summit Pacific College for her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and studied at Fraser Valley University for her Early Childhood Certificate, Special Needs Diploma, and Infant/Toddler Diploma. She completed her Master’s in Educational Leadership at Concordia University Portland’s online degree program in 2015. With more than 15 years of experience as a teacher and early year’s caregiver, Ms. Atha has taught in kindergartens, preschool, daycare, and after school programs. She also has great experience working with special needs children.
For the past ten years Ms. Atha has lived in China, teaching English at the University level as well as working with humanitarian agencies to provide early year’s programs to migrant’s workers children. Five years ago she transitioned back to teaching children full-time at the lower primary and early year’s level. When asked why she became an educator, Ms. Atha stated that she is passionate about the care and education of young children and that play based, whole brain learning is a starting foundation for educational success. Her goal is to serve the SLAS community to the best of her abilities and to incorporate the values SLAS holds with a learning curriculum that each child needs.
W.B. Yeats captured the exhilaration of teaching when he wrote: “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” My aim as a teacher is to light in each learner a passion that fosters educational success and sends them on to become productive, contributing members of society.
“There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Seeing my potential
The best part of SLAS was the fact that the school encouraged me to broaden my boundary of learning through various elective courses... I was able to see my own potential at SLAS, and most importantly, school was actually fun.— Hyen-Ju Jeon
Be a leader
Here at SLAS, we not only nurture the mind, body and spirit; we also equip our students with the necessary tools they need to become leaders in our culturally diverse and changing world.— Natalie Cheng
